Nino Kirvalidze is a full professor of English and American studies at School of Arts and Sciences, Ilia State University, Tbilisi, Georgia. She is a linguist with a solid academic background. In 1981 she defended her Ph.D. Thesis (Candidate Dissertation) in Germanic Languages at Moscow Moris Torez State Institute of Foreign Languages. In 1991 she defended her second dissertation, Habilitation Thesis (Doctor of Sciences Thesis), which is the highest academic qualification for a scholar, at Moscow State Linguistic University. In 1995, she was conferred a scientific-pedagogical title of the Professor of Anglistics.

Professor Kirvalidze has been working at Ilia State Universty (formerly Ilia Chavchavadze State University of Language and Culture) since 1975. She began her career as a senior teacher, then she was a docent and finally − a full professor. In 2002 – 2006 she headed the Chair of Romance and Germanic Philology. She has published more than 60 scientific works, among them two monographs and two books for graduate and post-graduate students of English philology. Professor Kirvalidze has supervised several doctoral dissertations in English philology. She has presented her research papers at different International Conferences in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Freiburg and London (All her presentations are published in international peer-reviewed journals). Her teaching and research spheres include cognitive linguistics, text linguistics, syntactic stylistics, linguocultural and interdisciplinary studies.
